The Situation:
A major manufacturer of batteries needed to inspect both ends
of it's battieries prior to packaging. Manual inspection had
proven unreliable.
The Solution:
A two camera SIMATIC Visionscape 2300 system was used with a
NER GL seriaes dome LED lights on each end. An annular unwrap
tool was used to unwrap the image into a rectangular buffer.
The unwrapped image was processed with a Sobel operator which
detected vertical gradients, and then blob analysis to find the
leaking liquid. Processing time 150 msec.

What is
Unique IDentification (UID)?
UID is a new globally unique "part identifier" containing data elements
used to track Department of Defense, DoD, parts through their life cycle.
UID Data is encoded into Data Matrix symbols that are applied to parts
using Direct Part Marking processes (DPM). The DoD has moved to this
transformation technology to facilitate electronic data
capture and transmission.
